ABOUT
Fraser Robinson is a lyric baritone hailing from Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, and is currently in his final year at the Alexander Gibson Opera School at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, under the tutelage of Scott Johnson and Andrew McTaggart.
In 2023, Fraser was an Associate Artist with Nevill Holt Opera (now Nevill Holt Festival), where he was a part of the Chorus in La Cenerentola and performed in their artist gala. Fraser was also a member of the young artist programme at Waterperry Opera Festival, and was a member of the chorus in Carmen, and a soloist in their young artist gala.
Previous roles include David in A Hand of Bridge (Waterperry Opera Festival), Cover Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana, and Zaretsky in Eugene Onegin (Edinburgh Studio Opera), and he will perform the roles of Nanni in L’Infedelta Delusa and Papageno in Die Zauberflote (Alexander Gibson Opera School) next academic year.
In scenes, Fraser has performed the roles of Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Harlekin in Ariadne auf Naxos, Sid in Albert Herring, Nick Shadow in The Rake’s Progress, Belcore in L’Elisir D’Amore, Dr. Malatesta in Don Pasquale, Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni in Don Giovanni , Ping in Turandot (Alexander Gibson Opera School), Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Sulpice in La Fille du Régiment (Waterperry Opera Festival), and Sailor 1 in Dido and Aeneas (Scottish Opera Young Company). Fraser has also been in the chorus for the world premier of Rubble by Gareth Williams and Der Zar Laßt sich Photografieren (Scottish Opera Young Company).
Fraser also performed as a bass soloist and Pilatus in Bach’s St. John Passion at Glasgow Cathedral and will soon perform the roles of Petrus and Pontifex 1 in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion (1841 Mendelssohn arr.) with the Edinburgh International Festival in the Usher Hall.
Fraser has performed in masterclasses with Simon Keenlyside, Susan Bullock, Simon Lepper, and Mary King.
While an undergraduate at RCS, Fraser placed 2nd both at the Molly Robb Prize for Young Singers and the Tony and Tania Webster Prize for Russian song.
